Harrogate Borough Council adopted a new District Local Plan in March 2020, which covers the period 2014-2035. This sets out how much and where land should be provided to accommodate the new homes and jobs that are needed in our district. The new Local Plan is not just about homes and jobs; it also looks to facilitate new infrastructure provision to ensure that development is sustainable. This might include new transport measures, new sport, open space and recreation facilities as well as schools, shops and community facilities. Finally the new Local Plan also looks to protect and enhance our high quality natural and built environment.

The plan will be used to manage development through the determination of planning applications; making clear where development is acceptable and providing certainty for local communities that new development will happen in a planned and co-ordinated way.
